FAQs

What is Culture Break?

‘Culture Break’ is a unique performance series that expresses the rich diversity of DTLA during the afternoons. Positioned during lunchtime hours, this multidisciplinary activation is free to the public and features both live music and eclectic artistic performances for the local workforce, residents and visitors in downtown Los Angeles. Located strategically around the Metro Regional Connector locations, ‘Culture Break’ is a way to discover destinations and enjoy public art with ease and convenience. NXT Art is proudly aligned with DTWX  in our mission to activate and support cultural experiences for all Angelenos in collaboration with dublab for this series. dublab is a Los Angeles-based, community-supported internet radio station and creative collective dedicated to the growth of positive music, arts, and culture.

When is the first Culture Break performance?

The first Culture Break will be Wednesday, August 23 at Noon to 1 p.m. near the Little Tokyo/Arts District Station at the JANM Plaza located at Japanese American National Museum, 100 N Central Ave, Los Angeles, CA 90012.

Performing will be Dengue Fever, Los Angeles recording artists known for unique musical hybrid of Cambodian rock, Afro grooves, surf and garage music. Puppeteers for the Bob Baker Marionette Theater, the oldest children’s theater in Los Angeles, will bring a lively “dance choreography” to accompany the live music performance. Calder Greenwood, a locally based sculpture artist, will be creating unique works from found and recycled materials as audience members attend this and future Culture Break events.
